While walking around the neighborhood admiring the street art by the Bushwick Collective I passed by Union Pizza Works and was surprised to see it open. I had seen online that they have a vegan pizza, called the Vegana, but thought they didn’t open until dinner. I immediately went inside and ordered the Vegana — topped with zucchini sauce, vegan mozzarella, soy chorizo, and slices of white onion. It’s a good pie, the crust nicely charred from the wood-burning oven and the soy chorizo lending a subtle spice. Surprisingly I thought the onion really brought it all together, lending some much needed texture to some pretty soft and mushy toppings. It was even good out of the fridge the next day, a great litmus test for any pizza. Not sure if they would allow you yo sub in the vegan mozz on their regular Margherita, I would be very interested in trying that.
